SLAPSTIK MAGAZINE A Good Laugh For the Abs
Bam Bamm, Judee Brown and Mike Smith

It would be groundless to be bored on a Wednesday night in Columbus, OH. If you really don’t know where to go, allow me to recommend The Funny Bone Comedy Club for Paul Strong’s Comedy Showcase. If you listen to the Power 107.5 Morning Crew, then you know that Paul’s show will be worth attending. The turnout was great, as many others and I anxiously waited around, expecting our attendants to arrive on time to fill our reserved seats before anyone else did. Due to the dimmed lights, the atmosphere was calm, and laughter exploded in the bar area, probably from the excitement of the show we were about to see.
The night opened with Paul introducing Jack Shepherd to host the show. Jack called for someone to come to the stage to sing, so he called on Trevor. He didn’t know shit so he went back to his seat and here came a cool ass…white guy. He rapped to one of Bone Thugs and Harmony’s first songs and, did a little dance. He had rhythm so he got his brownie points from me. Anywho, he did a good job so Jack gave him a pink and gray t-shirt that he was promised for singing. And yes, the cool ass white guy was very happy with the shirt.
First, to approach the stage was Nappy Head Fred; I believe that was his name. Anyways, he totally bombed. I’m not going to address his attire, all I can say is he knew better than to wear some bullshit like that. Ok, Ok, the man was wearing a sweat suit brighter than Big Bird and some dirty ass Filas. Then, Ooopps, his wig fell off while he was hopping around. It reminded me of when Beyonce’ fell down the steps while on stage, jumped up and started swinging her weave around except Nappy Head Fred was wearing a nappy dreaded wig. His three minutes were over real quick. The fall of his wig gave him amnesia.
Next to bring the funnies was JuDee Brown who was an absolute clown. She introduced the new “black people” holiday, which is….can you guess? That’s right, Income Tax! She hit that right on the nose. The crowd laughed and praised everything JuDee preached. She acted out from that night, when we ladies are in bed with our man and we don’t want to give him any to the way we yell at our children and explained the negotiation between the people who are going to pay the most from claiming the kids on their taxes, with achievement. She was hilarious. She spoke the truth.
Then came this cat that wasn’t funny either, just the shape of his head, that’s all. He would probably be considered an Arab, I would assume. But, I don’t want my house blown up so he’s probably funny sometimes, but not that night.
Calmly walking to the stage was comedian Mike Smith from Kansas. He was very calm and funny. He was calm funny, whatever that means. He didn’t smile too much however; he did crack one when he joked about kicking the ass of a specific bigot in Kansas. He also one handed the mic stand, leveling it to his mid section and you can guess what he did with it from there.
Last but not least, Bam Bamm did his thang! Of course, he better had, he was The Headliner. Bam Bamm called the cool ass white guy back to the stage and they played follow the leader with a song and dance lead by Bam Bamm. I already told you that the cool ass white guy had rhythm therefore his reenactment was great. Bam Bamm’s last line was for the cool ass white guy to say something negative about black people and the cool ass white guy turned it around and made black people look almost superior. We really laughed!
The night ended with a $65.00 alcohol tab. I love Apple Martini’s with an upgrade of Goose! We then went to the after party, which was located upstairs and enjoyed more drinks, mingling, and laughter. I really enjoyed myself. So, the next time you don’t have anything to do, take a step out to The Funny Bone!
